April 2025

​Cyndi shared with us the opportunity to reflect on our own sacred circle of life, as we open to "See The World Through Indian Eyes." Thank you Cyndi for spending your evening with us...it was enlightening and moving. 
Cyndi Koonse is a resident of Weatherby Lake, a grandmother, teacher, and lifelong student of both traditional Indigenous wisdom and Energy Medicine. Blending the wisdom of each, Cyndi servers as a Wellness Consultant, serving Indigenous peoples, via tribal communities and IASA (Indian Alcohol and Substance Abuse) programs (1993-2020) and is most grateful for all she's learned along the way.

February 2025

We had so much fun at our February meeting! Congratulations to our "Hearts" winners and losers, as well as our musical bear toss final winner! Thank you to our extraordinary snack volunteers:  Veronica Carroll and Jennifer Compton. We REALLY appreciate you!

December 2024
WOW's Ugly Sweater Christmas party at Betsy Keleher's house (WOW President) was amazing! Huge thanks to the WOW board members (past and present) that contributed food and their talents. We collected canned goods, women's hygine products, and toilet paper for Synergy Services. In addition, WOW made a $500 donation to the WL Police Department's "Shop with a Cop" Christmas event.

November 2024
November was the perfect time to learn (or remind yourself) how to relax, breath and stretch with Chair Yoga. Amy, from  Riverside YMCA, graciously volunteered to lead us. Betsy and Connie provided materials so that we could make a holiday pumpkin with fabric and a roll of toilet paper.

October 2024
We celebrated the fall season by learning how to make fabric pumpkins out of toilet paper rolls and fabric (thank you Betsy and Connie). We also learned how to play a card game called “Swoop".  The snacks were "Spooktacularly" delicious. Thanks to our WOW alums in the kitchen (Carol Regan, Bernie Botbyl, and De Surma). ​

September 2024

​​We had a "Groovy" time at our “Party like it's the 60s”  WOW 65th anniversary and season kickoff meeting where we welcomed over 30 new and renewed members. Music, dancing, hula-hooping, limbo, delicious food and snacks, drinks, prizes, and fun photo booth pictures were enjoyed by all! ​Check out the slideshow below for more party pictures!

July 2024
WOW  participated  in the Weatherby Lake 4th of July parade with a boat float featuring our Scholarship Winner, Chloe. We earned the parade's overall first place ribbon...for the 2nd year in a row! Many thanks to Justin Kleffner for letting us borrow his runabout! 

May 2024
If you missed the Season Finale, you missed a great time at the Derby post party! So much fun with all the creative hats, Derby Bingo, and wonderful refreshments. There was also the announcement of the scholarship winners and new officers for next year. WOW sponsored an Alderman Candidate Forum for the community to meet our candidates on March 14 at the Community Center.  De Surma, past WOW president was the moderator. Alderman candidates were Tyler Patterson and Tonya Finn (Eastside) and Rick Footer and Paula York (Westside). The event was well attended and was a very informative evening.

December 2023
We had a wonderful holiday party to close out 2023.  A special thanks to Diane Coleman for graciously hosting and to all who attended! Wishing you holidays filled with fun and laughter and for a safe and healthy 2024.

November 2023
We had another fun and informative November meeting featuring guest speakers Julie Horseman, her mother Mary, and Sharon, from Mimi’s Pantry. Thanks to all who attended and for all the donations. WOW members contributed $440 dollars which will turn into $880 thanks to the doubling campaign! Every monetary donation received until December 31st will be doubled on behalf of some very generous anonymous community members. Link to be able to donate is here.

Trunk or Treat 2023
The WOW (Women of Weatherby) group was well represented at the recent Halloween Trunk or Treat for the community. We always enjoy meeting new friends and having FUN! Thanks to all who came to the event and braved the frigid weather!

Thank you to ALL that came to hear Lainey Puglisi and her mom's up-lifting stories about their breast cancer journeys.  BIG takeaways…don’t miss your regular tests and feel free to use us as a resource if you or someone you know is going through the battle! This is a wonderful, supportive community of friends and neighbors. ​

September 2023
The theme for our fall kick off event was “Light up the Night under the Stars” and we had a fantastic time! It was great seeing old friend and meeting new ones. Thanks everyone for making it so special!

For our Weatherby Lake July 4th Parade, we had a Chiefs theme.  WOW won first place! Special thanks to Jeanne Lueders, Mindee Jackman, Karen Coulson, Linda Pederson and Laurie Zarse for their help in making the float amazing.  Way to go ladies in repesenting us well!

May 2023
Our 2022-2023 year closed with a Cinco de Mayo-style Fiesta of Food, Fun, Friendship and a May Madness Corn Hole Tournament! Club members played Corn Hole and the champion team players were Cheryl Jarosz and Robyn Tholen. A catered dinner from Rancho Grande was very well received. Our Scholarship winners were announced and the officers for the new term were elected.

Our guest presenter was Chef James White who showed us how to make wonderful items with Pate-a Choux.  We all enjoyed delicious samples and recipes including Gougeres, Smoked Salmon Mousse, Vanilla Pastry Cream, Choux Au Craquelin and Chocolate Ganache.  We also heard from Carol Regan’s daughter, Danielle, a nutritionist and dietician, who gave a presentation on
“The 15-Minute Fix”, how to plan, prepare and portion meals in 15 minutes.
​She also shared recipes and ideas for quick meals.

Michael Horseman shared tips and tricks to help keep us digitally safe. He has been working in Information Security for 20+ years and shared valuable information about where the dangers are and how to prevent becoming a victim.
We had alot of delicious St. Patrick's day goodies provided by Jennifer and Veronica! Thanks ladies!

Carol Regan demonstrated the art of making various chocolate treats and shared her tips for melting chocolate and the different brands to use. It was a fun presentation  and enjoyed by all as the members sampled some of her delicious treats.                        Congrats to MaryLou James for winning the gift giveaway!

Our January meeting provided travel information from Mark Comfort of Cruise Holidays and Comfort Tours. Pamphlets were distributed and Viking Cruise representative Sonia Smith presented a slide show detailing the varied itineraries and amenities provided on their River and Ocean Cruises. 

2022 Events

December 2022 Holiday Party
Our ladies enjoyed food, fun, friendship, and football during our December party at the home of Robyn Tholen. Teams played “Movie Trivia” and “Name that Tune” with prizes awarded to those having the most correct answers. We enjoyed watching most of the game there and got home in time to celebrate the Chief’s win. In addition, all members received a new WOW tote bag.

November 2022
​Bethany Garcia, her daughter, Zoe, and Kelly Wesley (Weatherby Lake residents) were guest speakers. They volunteer at A Turning Point here in the Northland. They gave a very informative presentation. ATP always needs volunteers and donations. They distributed a brochure explaining the various divisions and how to volunteer or donate at any time.

Trunk or Treat 2022
The WOW (Women of Weatherby) group was well represented at the recent Halloween Trunk or Treat for the community. We always enjoy meeting new friends and having FUN! If you're not a little scared by this picture....you should be! :-)

We had a fun and interactive evening! Rachel Rilinger with Healing Harmony was our guest presenter.  Rachel is an accredited Tai Chi Chih instructor, a certified Laughter Yoga leader, and music therapist.  She demonstrated and explained the benefits of these as the members participated.

Our BUNCO season kickoff was once again a crowd favorite! Everyone had a blast playing the game and showing their Chiefs spirit. Congrats to our winners: Most Buncos-Kim James, Most Wins-Jennifer Compton, Most Losses-Marsha Peters. Also Sharon Atwell won the mug which was donated by Karen Coulson, for Chiefs wear!

July 2022
Our neighborhood tradition every year is the July 4th parade! This year's theme was Maui Wowie and it certainly didn't disappoint. The WOW was amazing and we won the best Aloha spirit award! Thanks to our float committee Mary Hoskins, Aimee Scheck and Trina Henke for all their hard work. They represented us well!

May 2022
In May we had an spectacular season finale with a Luau party at C-Point. We had special dancing, delicious food and lots of fun! Special thanks to De Surma for her excellent leadership the last 4 years as president. We look forward to another awesome season kick off in September!
March & April 2022
We had another super fun BUNCO game in March. Special thanks to Teresa Henderson who did a great job explaining the rules and keeping everything moving along. In April, we had special guest Amy Grothaus, charcuterie extraordinaire! She  covered the 5 C’s of Charcuterie, and showed us how to assemble a gorgeous board plus gave a little education about cheese, fruit and dried meats. Everything was delicious and well done!

February 2022
We got the new year in full swing with an awesome speaker, Lisa Wade McCormick. Lisa is an award-winning journalist and investigative reporter for KSHB Channel 41. She shared about how to avoid getting ripped off and other fraud protection techniques. She's also the author of 18 children’s books and shared about those.  You can learn more at her website: www.lisawademccormick.com. 

2021 Events

December 2021
We had a fun and festive Holiday party at Jeanne Lueder's home. There was delicious food, games, prizes and Christmas carols. We also donated over 300 items (warm socks, gloves and under clothes) to Operation Breakthrough. It was heart warming to see the kindness and generosity of the Women of Weatherby (WOW)!! A very Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year 2022!

November 2021
Mary Hoy demonstrated the art of breadmaking. Attendees had an opportunity to watch the ingredients and steps used to make the bread, and also included participation in kneading the dough. Bread samples were available to taste in olive oil dippings.  In November we also donated items to the reFRESH personal care closet sponsored by Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. There was a total of over 300 items donated and other financial gifts given.

We had two very special speakers: Michelle Cameron, owner of Hirschman Clinical Services and Tyler Bischof, Clinic Director with SERC Physical Therapy. Michelle shared an exercise in identifying stress areas of our lives (mind) and Tyler spoke on destressing (body) by keeping your body moving correctly.

September 2021
We had another phenomenal season kick off!! Jessica Salisbury from Kaleidoscope Creations led us in creatively painting wine glasses. The house was full and we all had a blast! Looking forward to more fun activities, education and service to the community in this next season! 
July 2021 - Happy 4th of July!
We won the gold for our 4th of July parade float taking the 1st place award for "Best Represents Weatherby Lake"! Special thanks to De Surma, Linda Pederson and helpers for all their hard work. We most certainly have the best place to live here at Weatherby and the best group of ladies!

June 2021 - Scholarship winners announced
This year's $1500 Scholarship was awarded to Alyssa Griffith, daughter of Jim and Barbara Griffith who are new residents of Weatherby. Congratulations to our outstanding winners! More information on our Scholarship page.

May 2021 - Season finale BUNCO party
Everyone had a blast playing BUNCO at our season finale! Teresa Henderson led us in playing this really fun and interactive game. A special thank you to Ashley Footer for providing the amazing cookies! We are considering having another round of games sometime this summer. Let's roll gals!

April 2021 - Gardening for Health and Tai Chi
We joined with the Weatherby Lake Garden Club at C-Point for a super fun program including some Tai Chi and Gardening for Health. We were challenged to get outside, plant some flowers and herbs, and enjoy the amazing scenery around this lake and our city! We made fresh herb butter as well. It was so nice to finally be together in person again!

March 2021 - Children's Miracle Network
Amy Lueders (Jeanne's daughter in law) with Children's Miracle Network was our guest speaker. She shared that CMS was founded in 1985 by Marie Osmond and
John Schneider.  Funds which are donated locally, stays local. CMN covers 36 counties (26 in MO and 10 in KS). In spite of COVID in 2020, CMN still received a
good amount of donations.  De presented Amy with a WOW donation of $500 to

February 2021 - DIY Chocolate
We had a fun and "sweet" virtual meeting this month! We enjoyed an excellent presentation and demo from Carol Regan about making your own chocolates. She shared various techniques on melting and tempering chocolate and made chocolate ganache, truffles and dipped strawberries.  She shared lots of recipes and tips for making delicious chocolate treats.

​January 2021 -  Outsmart the Scammers ZOOM
We're still zooming into 2021! Weatherby resident Nick Miller with Edward Jones gave an excellent presentation about how to identify potential scams and avoid them.
​There are more and more of these cropping up everywhere so this was an extremely important topic. Thanks to Nick and also WOW member Sherri Del Soldato of JetKor who shared her insights as well!

December 2020 -  8 Dimensions of Wellness ZOOM
This month we heard from Jennifer Tallman of Integrated Bodywork in Kansas City who presented on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. It was a very timely and practical virtual presentation on how we can take care of ourselves and others during these challenging times.

Shop with a Deputy Donation
The City of Weatherby Lake Police Department participated in the annual "Shop With A Deputy" event sponsored by the Platte County Sheriff's Office. This is a holiday shopping opportunity for underprivileged children. We decided to support this cause with a $500 donation. Thanks for helping make this possible! November 2020 - "Drop and Sip" Event
One thing we love so much about this community is when we ask for something, you always deliver!  From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to all those that stopped by and dropped off items.  We collected 350 food items, $460 cash, PLUS $240 donated by Women of Weatherby (WOW) to make an even $700, divided evenly to SPEAC (Parkville pantry) & St. Therese Pantry!
This will be such a blessing to those in need over the holidays. You all are amazing!!

October 2020 - Heavenly Oils Virtual Cooking Demo
​We had another successful virtual event on October 8. Chef Mike Silber presented a recipe for Pulled Pork using olive oil and balsamic from Heavenly Oils. Here are some fun cocktail recipes using balsamic. Also here are some good side dishes to compliment the pork that were shared by members. Looking forward to seeing you in November!

September 2020 - Virtual Zoom Gathering
​We held our first ever virtual zoom for our September 10 kick off. We would have much rather had an in person gathering but it was still fun getting to know each other. We'll have one more virtual event in October then hopefully we'll meet in person in November!

July 2020 - Replenish School Supply Drive
We participated with a local church's community event called Replenish KC to donate backpacks full of school supplies for Park Hill School District K-12 students. Every year Replenish has catalyzed the generosity of the Park Hill Community to collect school supplies.


June 2020 - Scholarship winners announced

May 2020 - Supplies for Synergy's Teen Parenting Program
Thanks to all who donated goodies and supplies for new parents in need in the Synergy Teen Parenting Program. It was a huge blessing!
March 2020 - St. Patty's Celebration
A big THANK YOU to all those who provided yummy desserts for the St. Patty's event on Saturday, March 14.  It was a super fun time and over $5,500 was raised for our amazing Weatherby Lake Police Department! 
February 2020 - Culinary Tips, Gizmos and Secrets
Chef James White gave quite an amazing presentation at our last gathering! James has been a Certified Executive Chef for over 35 years and lives at Weatherby Lake. He provided showed us how to prepare some simple things but also some very decadent dishes. Also included was some cooking tips and gizmos to use. It was simply delicious! 
January 2020 - Favorite Vacation Destinations 
To take our minds off the winter weather here, we thought of warm travel destinations! Our speaker was Mark Comfort, co-owner of Cruise Holidays Kansas City. He shared some of his favorite vacation spots and trends in the travel industry.  We also had delicious tropical appetizers. What a fun evening to dream and plan our next getaway! 

2019 Events

December 2019 - Annual Christmas Party
We had a blast at our festive Christmas party with over 50 ladies attending! There was delicious goodies, fun games and prizes. We also collected a car full of baby shower gifts for the Parkville Women's Clinic. They were overwhelmed with the donations. Thank you so much for your generosity!  Merry Christmas everyone and please continue this spirit of giving!   (More pictures coming soon!)
November 2019 - HopeKids KC
In November we heard from Kristin Castle, Executive Director of HopeKids in Kansas City. We donated $500 to this amazing organization. For more information go to their website at https://www.hopekids.org/kansas-city-chapter/. We also collected over 120 non-perishable items to take to the Parkville Food Pantry. What a blessing! 
October 2019 - Front Door Make-Over: Making the World Beautiful, One Front Door at a Time
Weatherby Lake resident Kim James gave an inspiring presentation on how to spruce up the entrance to our homes. There was a lovely fall display and she shared some examples and design ideas, which included a fall item swap. After the presentation we worked in teams on Phone Directory trivia! It was such a fun evening. 

Fall Season Kick Off
Our September 2019-2020 Season Kick-Off was a huge success! We had 45 women at our Paint and Sip event. Trina Henke did a great job teaching the women some painting techniques. We're looking forward to more fun gatherings in the next few months and we hope you'll join us!

​Independence Day Parade
We were well represented at the Independence Day Parade on July 4th. There was a ​"Happy 80th Birthday Weatherby Lake" theme, thus the huge present on top of the car!  President De Surma (pictured right) represented us well. This holiday is always filled with fun and events throughout the community. We love living here at the lake!

Dancing Finale
We had a fun time learning some dance moves with Beth Tidwell on May 9 at C-Point. This was our last official gathering until this fall, but we will have some ways to stay connected over the summer.

​We’ll kick off the season again on Thursday, September 12 so be sure to save the date!


Visit to Nell Hills
In April 2019 the ladies visited Nell Hills, the ultimate in home design & gifts. There was a short presentation on spring design trends and then open shopping.  Afterwards, there were drinks and snacks at Piropo’s. A great time was had by all!

Stress Talk
​In March 2019 Mike Hudak of I Got Your Back Chiropractic and lake resident spoke about the leading causes of stress and how to overcome them. It was an interesting and informative presentation! Thanks to all who came and made it a fun evening!

Visit to Synergy
​
On January 10 a group of Weatherby women visited the Synergy Services Children’s Center. We got a tour of the facility with Jennifer Hurst, Director of Development. We got to meet some of the kids who live there, and see firsthand how Synergy is making a difference in their lives and in the community. We will continue an ongoing relationship with this amazing organization. There are many ongoing volunteer opportunities. Check out their website here.

2018 Events

December Christmas Party 2018
We had a super fun party on December 2 with over 40 women in attendance. There was a lot of laughter, good food and games. We also collected 165 Christmas presents for the children at Synergy Services which is sure to be a blessing to families during this holiday season. A special thank you to our amazing host, Ann Krob!

Generous Donations
WOWza!! We recently presented two generous cash donations to SWAT for the Homes for Homeless Vets ($1250) and Synergy Services ($1000). We also donated a total of 80 purses stuffed with goodies to Synergy. This was from the monies raised at our Purse Extravaganza this past July. Thanks to all that gave your time and finances to support these two outstanding organizations! For more information, visit the Synergy website.

Serving with Synergy
Thanks to all that attended our November gathering to hear more about how Synergy Services is making a difference in the lives of adults and children in Kansas City.  We'll be planning a visit to Synergy in January so stay tuned. Also thanks for all the Thanksgiving donations to Harvesters. It will be a blessing to families during the holidays!

Keeping Safe and Aware
At our October gathering we had a 3 for 1 program covering Self/Safety Awareness. Our presenters included Chief Kevin Davis with the Weatherby Lake Police Department ,
Marsha Youngblood from Damsels in Defense and Nathan Woodland with Parma Woods Firing Range. It was a very informative and interesting evening!

​Fall Kick-off Fun
Our fall kick-off “Paint and Sip” event on September 13 was a huge success!  Over 50 women had fun creating their own unique masterpieces. Trina Henke provided basic instruction and all the painting supplies.  If anyone would like art lessons or schedule painting parties contact Trina with Art House at

Purse Project Update
 A BIG THANK YOU to all who volunteered and shopped for our purse project last month. We raised a total of $2500!  Monies will be donated to Tiny Homes for Vets and Synergy Women's Shelter. The remainder of purses were donated to Synergy, Northland Christmas Store, MLM Christmas Store (Lutheran Ministries), Park Hill Clothing Store, St. Therese Purse Project and Methodist Senior Center.

Purse Project Delivery
In July De Surma and Bernie Botbyl delivered 40 purses stuffed with goodies to Corky McCaffrey at the Synergy Women’s Shelter in Parkville in July. The recipients were so very appreciative! In Corky’s thank you letter she expressed that these items are so useful and necessary for the women. Thanks again for all your donations and help to make this project a great success!


SWAT dance and July 4th parade
A big thank you to everyone who donated desserts (pictured left) for the SWAT Independence Day dance on June 30 to kick off the Independence day celebrations. It helped keep the costs down and raise funds for the Veterans Community project. Despite the heat and threatening weather, the event was fun for all!  Also Bernie Botbyl (pictured right) represented the Women of Weatherby well at the July 4th parade.

​Purse Project Success
In June some of the Women of Weatherby stuffed 40 purses with 2 scarves, toiletries, and LOTS of miscellaneous items. A special thanks goes out to Hailey Jaynes with Charming Charlie who donated purses and scarves.  Thanks also to our members who donated all the items that went inside.  We will be delivering these to Synergy Women's Shelter in Parkville. This will be a huge blessing to the women there.

In May 2018, we gathered at the Community Center to learn about the organization Mo-Kan Pet Partners.  Several therapy teams (pictured below) joined us for a fun filled evening.

Essential Oils and Exercise Therapy
In April 2018 we heard from Travis Perret, about the power of exercise therapy as a proactive way to help reduce pain.  In March 2018 we had a great time learning from Doe Weaver about the benefits of doTERRA Essential Oils. These evenings were both

Christmas Party 2017
At our 2017 Christmas Party, De Surma and
Carol Regan led the group in a game of "Left, Right".  
We had an amazing hostess for the event, Ann Krob.  It was a fun afternoon of good food, drink, great conversation and fun games.

The Women's Club members donated 220 socks, gloves and mittens.  Donations were made to both Catholic Charities of Kansas City - St. Joseph along with the Park Hill Clothing Center. ​
